On May 26–27, 2025, POTENTIAL consortium hosted an on-site interoperability testing event in Vilnius, Lithuania, dedicated to the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW), bringing together technical teams from across Europe. Building on the momentum from earlier events, this gathering focused on real-world, peer-to-peer testing in a collaborative environment.

Key achievements
The event marked another important milestone toward achieving digital identity interoperability across the European Union. By simulating real-life cross-border interactions and validating compatibility between different wallet implementations and service providers, the project continues to pave the way for a seamless and trusted digital identity ecosystem.
- 14 EU Member States represented
- 100 participants
- 34 public and private entities (17 wallet issuers, 17 service providers)
- Over 1,300 interoperability tests conducted
- More than 1,000 successful transactions
- 249 cross-border compatibility results
Testing phases and objectives
The testing covered both technical deep-dives and user-centric interoperability scenarios, structured through dedicated tracks tailored to specific use cases.
“This event is all about turning theory into practice: for the first time we’ve been assessing real-life interoperability scenarios, pushing boundaries and validating what works across borders, systems, and frameworks”, said Florent Tournois, the French Coordinator for POTENTIAL. “With every interoperability event, Potential brings the EU one step closer to a future where citizens can access digital identity services across borders—reliably, efficiently, and under their full control”, he added.
As one of the four Large Scale Pilots launched by the European Commission, POTENTIAL will conclude in September 2025. Its results and recommendations will be handed over to the Commission to support the EUDI Wallet rollout in 2026 and 2027. Many thanks to the participants !
