The context
Today, across EU Member States, there is a wide variety of processes for providing valid and acceptable personal identification data online in order to access governmental services or perform administrative procedures.
Our ambitions
POTENTIAL will create a secure digital ID that will enable all citizens across the European Union to connect to online governmental procedures and services like registering to vote, submitting a request for a construction permit or getting a fishing license, domestically and across borders.
The benefits
By making it fast and easy for citizens to prove their identity while signing in to local, regional or federal public service websites, EU Member States will reduce bureaucracy, enable paperless options and create a more uniform experience.
Work in progress
Project participants are building on a mature environment to improve functionalities and ensure cross-border interoperability by reusing and further developing components of existing eGov infrastructures, including national one-stop-shop web portals for citizens and businesses, online workflows for administrative procedures, and connections to national authentic sources.
What is at stake with UC1 is to have a wallet that will really help citizens or companies.”
